The Spring Look List: Handbags

Okay, so remember that time I was like, “I’m going to do a new style post EVERY DAY.”? Yeah, me, too. And as you can see, I totally defected from that. Why? Because this shit takes a lot of work and time, and this blogress ran out of time because life stuff got in the way. And crazy stuff in the world got in the way (Boston, Waco, sheesh). That doesn’t mean that writing and creating this site isn’t one of my most favorite activities, next to watching my dogs zipping up and down the beach with big grins on their faces and singing karaoke. Because truly, those two are BIG TIME favorites.

The Little Foxes Spring Look List Vegan Bags Handbags

So, I amended the schedule here (so you can set your clocks by it) and, in the spirit of prioritization, I’m giving handbags its own post. Why? Because I have a serious handbag addiction. And there are so many beautiful ones out there. And, a beautiful vegan handbag is all you need to bring an outfit together. Even if said outfit is your sweatpants and a PETA “Mean People Wear Fur” t-shirt, which I apparently wear so often since I’ve been working from home that my boyfriend has taken to calling it my “uniform.” To all the people in styleland, I promise to get my at-home act together.

Moreover, I want to add the caveat that the finest way to be kind to animals and the Earth is to reuse and recycle items. If you’re jonesin’ for some new accessories, have a clothing swap with friends, or visit your local thrift or vintage store. Oh, and it’s Earth Day + Meatless Monday, lovelies. Here’s my little reminder to ya to make every day Earth Day.

Now, without further mumblings, can we please get to these CRAZY GORGEOUS (and affordable) HANDBAGS ? ! Yes, yes we can.

The Little Foxes’ Spring Look List: Handbags

The Little Foxes Look List Bags

(1) Matt & NatSchlepp Vegan Tote Bag / $95

You know those days where you’re carrying your laptop, yoga clothes, running shoes, high heels for that 11am meeting, and perhaps a tasty sandwich for lunch? And on those days, you’re taking public transport and walking all over creation. Enter this Matt & Nat carryall that you’ll be proud of. For one, it’s made from sustainable cork, and like all Matt & Nat bags, has a lining made from recycled bottles. It’s tall, sturdy, and roomy enough for your everyday or to carry to the beach or a picnic.

(2) Virginia Johnson / Nylon Cosmetic Set – Frogs, Stars, + Poppies / $98

A little luxury sometimes makes even every day activities, like slicking on your favorite cruelty-free lip tint or doing laundry, feel special. These bags are that for me. They’re emblazoned with Johnson’s irreverent, darling designs, but are functional and long-lasting. They’re also ripe for double-duty, and can be used as clutches, coin purses, a neat spot to store your loose buttons, or a place to stash love notes. Whatever you do with these little nylon gems, that whatever will take on a tangibly springy feeling.

(3) Pansy MaidenPetite Hobo with Fringe in Whiskey / $260

You know when you e-meet someone and you just know you’d be friends if you lived nearby? And, what’s more, they’re like this totally amazing-self-made-talented-entrepreneur-with-a-conscience, and you’re like “whoa.” Well, that’s what meeting Pansy Maiden founder, Laura Collins, is kinda like. Actually, that’s exactly what it’s like. You gotta admire that Laura founded Pansy Maiden with an “activist spirit” and is a fellow bespectacled lovely with a great eye for style. This roomy bag adds just the right amount of Stevie Nicks to any outfit.

Best of all, everything Pansy Maiden is entirely handmade. Just lil’ Laura and her sewing machine, making painstaking, stylish magic. Like what you see? Buy this and more, and check out Laura’s IndieGoGo campaign to help keep Pansy Maiden prospering and creating jobs in the US. (Hint: There are some seriously badass incentives for every level of helper-ness).

(4) H & MClutch with Beaded Embroidery / $34.95

Whole H & M is by no means a mom-and-pop operation, you gotta give props to their Conscious Collection, which features sustainable materials and construction in stylish designs. This art deco-style clutch may look fancypants, but it can totally be dressed down with jeans and a white tee to add a little Gatsby to your look. It’s made from recycled polyester and has a high-fashion smattering of beaded embroidery that I can’t get enough of. F. Scott Fitzgerald would be proud.

(5) TargetMerona Flap Cross-body Handbag in Blue / $19.99

If you’re on a budget and want to add a pop of fresh-as-a-daisy color to your wardrobe, this versatile little bag is perfect. It’s made from critter-friendly faux leather, has loads of compartments, and embodies that effortless Love Story-esque Ali McGraw collegiate style without being too Ivy League.

(6) Free People / Avery Crossbody in Taupe / $58

Ah, Free People. The store that seemed to only cater to teenage models who like to go to boho festivals and Kate Hudson in Almost Famous (who else wears macrame crop tops?), is finally debuting a line of handbags that are vegan. I think this is a great indicator that plant-based consciousness – beyond just diet – is spreading among all generations in a marvelous way. And the bags are cute, trendy, and on-point. This version comes in two darling styles, but I’m still not quite ready to let go of winter’s stud-obsessed aesthetic, so I’m rooting for the Taupe.

(7) Angela + RoiPalette Crossbody / $62

Isn’t it nice when you find a gorgeous classic handbag that also happens to be vegan? It’s even nicer when the company is owned by folks who proudly state that they use vegan leather, and donate to various charities based upon the color of handbag you choose. This style is so timeless and the color choices are like Jolly Ranchers, juicy and delish. I see myself wearing this whilst wearing a cute sundress and riding my bike to the farmer’s market. Of course, we all know that riding a bike in a sundress like, never works, so I’ll just wear jeans. What are your handbag dreams?

(8) Co-labCastle Hobo in Cobalt / $72

One: THAT COLOR. I want to swim in that color. Right now. Two: Those compartments! Three: This bag is light as a feather, thanks to faux leather. I adore this bag when you need a polished look and lots of functionality, but you want to be who you are, too – a fun, cool person. The style is versatile, and though it’s a one-shoulder bag, you can load the bag up and not get that one-sided achin’ at the end of a long day. A busy professional’s dream, right here.

(9) Kimchi Blue / Envelope Backpack / $49

It’s spring, which means I have to throw a backpack in the mix. As a busty gal, I generally loathe what backpacks do to my figure (stemming from years of carrying them in middle school along with wearing an ill-fitting training bra, but that is a tale for another day). Let’s just say this: My requirements for backpacks are pretty freakin’ intense. I want them to be cute, light, relatively compact, SUPER functional without looking like they came from the movie Tron, and non-slippy when I ride my bike. Enter this cheap n’ cheerful bag that comes in classic and fun colors and is easy on the wallet. This is definitely a bike commuter’s bag, and can accommodate a small laptop, tablet, and many of the other goodies you need on-the-go.

(10) Pansy MaidenCanteen Clutch / Hip Bag in Purple Haze / $65

Indulge me for a moment as I sing the praises of Pansy Maiden’s stuff…again. This bag is like a little Popple (remember those? well, you’re welcome) of functionality. It can be worn a billion ways (just about), like on your hip (perfect for walkin’ the dog or going to a festival where people can get handsy), or as a sweet, soft clutch of love. Or, order a lil’ strap and go cross-body or sling over your shoulder. You can do darn near anything with this bag, that is the ideal size for running errands and generally GETTIN’ SHIT DONE while looking good. Lots of color and print selections here, including this boho floral, which I want to make love to.

And, for those of you who like to go big and do good, Pansy Maiden’s Indie Go Go campaign will customize one of these cuties for you with a $100 donation. Which is kinda like the biggest deal of the century, since normally Pansy Maiden doesn’t do custom work on this particular style. What are you waiting for? Summer’s a-callin’ and this bag is your new buddy.

(11) ZaraPrinted Fabric Clutch / $49

Pop of color, much? This delightful ikat clutch features a zippered pocket and just the right amount of ZING! to any outfit. It also comes with a slim strap so you can take that glam over the shoulder.

(12) Paul FrankAvian Aplomb Satchel / $99.99

This limited-run, plumed, classically-styled handbag is like a big, beautiful cruelty-free middle finger to the Vuitton-saturated masses. The silhouette is timeless, and the print is truly timely. Why? Because, it’s designed and numbered in a limited-run series of only 150 bags. So, unlike Vuitton, you won’t see this bag all over the darn place. The interior is roomy enough for some light reading, a tablet, your gadgets and gizmos, and anything else you might need to veganize the ladies who lunch phenom.
